The Rules and Regulations for the Classification of Ships apply in general to single-hull ships of normal form, proportions and speed. Relevant parameters to define what is regarded as normal are given by limitations specified at the beginning of individual ship type Chapters. Although the Rules are, in general, for steel ships of all welded construction, other materials for use in hull construction will be considered.
The main ship types covered by these Rules are:
- General Cargo Ships
- Ferries, Roll On-Roll Off Ships and Passenger Ships
- Tugs
- Offshore Support Vessels
- Barges and Pontoons
- Trawlers and Fishing Vessels
- Bulk Carriers
- Container Ships
- Double Hull Oil Tankers
- Single Hull Oil Tankers
- Ore Carriers
- Dredging and Reclamation Craft
The Rules also cover a wide range of engineering systems and features.
